Hi All,
I'm having a problem with my power trim on the Yamaha. It is working intermittently. When the up or down swithc is activated, the motor is running, but the pump is not moving the motor. After a while it acts like it catches prime and the motor will move, but at first is sputters. Eventually it moves decently. This happens intermittently.

Is this a problem with low hydraulic fluid level? What type of hydraulic fluid does the pump take?

Great site, thanks for any replies.

Dextron V...trim the motor up and block with the trailering lever. Unscrew the manual bypass screw, usually on the port side accessible thru a slot in the bracket. Open the fill plug. Manually lift and lower the motor several times to try and force any air out. Fill with the ATF thru the fill hole. Keep lots of marine grease on the ends of the rams to keep them from "chirping". Also a good thin film of Yamaha marine grease will help prevent corrosion on the motor, tilt tube bracket, etc..

if red use ATF, if yellow only use trim fluid from any boat store
