Carburetors gums up on low idle jets. Any info on how to drain gas out of carburetors? Added fuel stabelizer treatment. Just had them clean at Yamaha Dealership. Boat ran excellent for a hefty price. Any ideas on keeping carbuetors clean? :(:(:(

Install fuel/water separator(Walmart $27), use Stabil Marine and Ringfree all the time, drain carbs at least a couple of times per year with brass drain screw on bottom/side of each carb. Check and clean under cowl filter screen regularly. That should take care of your dirty carb problem. My motor is a 1999 90HP carbed 2 stroke premix and carbs have never been touched and motor runs as new, so I know this works. Good Luck!

Re: Yamaha 2005 V6 150 2 stroke

Dealer suggested to drain carbs if motor sets up for more then a month. I saw brass screws underneath carbs. Hard to get to with screwdriver b/c carbs stacked on top of each other. Will install fuel/water separator. Was told low idle jets on this particular motor has very small pin hole jets.

Thanks for info appreciate all the help.

If you think they are small you should see the small HP ones

on the 2005 150 2 stroke you drain the carbs by backing off the 6 12mm headed silver plugs at the bottom of the fuel bowl that are horizontal.
leave them loose for a few minutes then retighten.
no brass drains on that engine.

What if I was to install fuel shut off switch between primer bulb and motor. And run motor until it dies. Could this harm the motor? And if I were to install fuel/water separator do I install between tank and primer bulb?

yes you can run the engine out of gas without damaging anything, but you will still clean the carbs again after sitting.
you simply cannot empty the fuel bowls by running it with the fuel shut off.
install the water seperator anywhere its convienent.

Rodbolt does your method apply to a 2003 TXRB (150 2 stroke carb)? Or do I have brass drains?

Rodbolt thanks again for all the info. We'll probably take it out a few more times. Then I will try draining the carbs.

Re: Yamaha 2005 V6 150 2 stroke

cant remember when the change was.
some carbs have a single silver 12mm plug others have a brass 12mm main jet with a 10mm hex plug just fwd of it.
the 10mm hex is the drain on that model.
