'84 Suzuki Revs up and loses power

My '84 Suzuki 40 hp will ocassionaly rev of high at high speed. Then its loses power and revs even higher. Backing down the thottle then going faster dosnt solve the problem.It usually happens once a trip. Any ideas?

Thank you sir, how could I find out? put the motor in gear and try to turn the prop?

Prop slippage would be that the Hub in the center of the prop is slipping. One way to test this is to mark the prop with alignment marks before you launch. Mark a line (Scratch or paint) on the edge of the prop and and corresponding mark on the center of the prop right next to the shaft. If you expereince this issue while you are out, then check the prop and see if the marks are still aligned the same as when you marked it...
If the alignments marks moved, then your prop needs to be rehubbed...
