is the tachometer and charging system tied together on this engine.I was never able to get more than 12.7 volts even at wide open throttle(i installed digital volt meter)I'm fairly new to marine engines, but have been ase master tech for over 20yrs. I haven't had the boat out long enough to run battery down.but iI believe I should have over 14 volts when charging properly. I know these alt don't put out but 6 to 9 amps, but voltage has to be high than battery voltage to charge. Also mt tach doesn't work, this is what I started to ask. I have also seen that there is a regulator that can be installed to replace rectifier, and it claims to raise charging amps to about 20 amps. anyone ever install one?
