Re: Yamaha 8hp 2stroke replace starter cord

You would need to take it apart, put in the new rope, re wind the coil, and put it back together. Sounds easy, no it is not, I have done this a million times, but the first 100 times it is very tricky ....... it is kinda hard to explain but I will try .... wind up the rope on the wheel, put the coil in the shell normally (not wound up) and put it together, you must then pull the rope out with the handle but not all the way, just so that the coil have enough resistance. Ask someone to then hold the wheel in that position for you, you will now need to wind up the rope that is "hanging" onto the wheel, this is the tricky part, if there is space you can easily get the rope in there around, if not you need to lift the wheel out slightly which can cause the coil to jump and then you have to start all over again ...... hope you get it right .... tip: do not throw it out the window cause parts might go missing ;) .....
