Just obtained a 2000 - DF15ELY motor and need to understand the water cooling system.

At idle water comes out the pee hole in the back and exhaust comes out the idle relief exhaust hole at the back also. Operates the same in gear in the tank, but have not tried on the boat. Water exits in a good stream from a small hole (about 1/4" dia.) just above the yoke assembly at the front of the motor. Is this proper? If this is not correct, where is power head cooling water supposed to exit the engine?

Thanks for any explanation of proper water flow for power head cooling.

Re: Suzuki 15hp cooling system

To the 29 people that were probably looking for an answer. This is from the Suzuki Shop Manual -

"The cooling system for Suzuki 4-stroke outboards is relatively simple. Water is pumped by the drive shaft driven water pump to the exhaust manifold area of the power head. This water enters to the cylinder block then cylinder head. Water exists the cylinder head and block through the thermostat, pressure relief valve, water indicator stream and dedicated drain passages. Except for the water indicator stream ALL EXITING WATER IS DIRECTED INTO THE DRIVE SHAFT HOUSING. "

At about 90C the thermostat opens up and allows a greater flow of water thru the power head for additional cooling.
