Lower Unit removal 1999 Yamaha 75 enduro

Does the shift rod get disconnected at the top where it meets the shift linkage from the shift lever ? There is a clevis pin there.Or do I just diconnect the bolts and slide the lower unit out ?
There's no mention of this in the factory service manual.

Yes, you must first disconnect the shift rod before removal, some, like yours are disconnected from the top and other models and manufacturers are disconnected from between the lower unit and midsection.

Anybody ? The service manual doesn't mention anything about disconnecting the shift rod in the section on lower unit removal.
