I just bought a boat yesterday that had a 88 225 excel. Comp was great 135-125. My question is about the pulser coil. First there was no spark tested everything and came up with the coils pulled flywheel cleaned contacts and put back together giving me spark on two cylinders. There are three coils I"m thinking each one does two cylinders. Is it common for these to fail or do you think maybe something is still dirty or bad connection. I'm on a budget and would like to be totally sure the part is bad before replacing.
Another question I read a post that said these motors require 91 octane is this true.
I was thinking of disconnecting oil injection but wouldn't oil in gas lower octane rating.
Should I leave oil injection connected do they ever fail?
