I have a DF70 Suzuki on a pontoon boat and started to winterize it today and tried to start motor to warm the oil and the starter turns but will not engauge into the flywheel. Battery shows good but I put a charger on it and will put a slow charge in it. Starter has never given me any trouble, its a 03 model. with very few hours on it. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks. Re: DF70 Suzuki starter problem

Several simple possibilities, MrM.

1. Resistance in the starter circuit. You could have a poor connection at the battery or where one of the large cables connects to the solenoid, starter or block. Looking good is not enough. Take the connection off, clean it and reattach. Sometimes these cables corrode inside the insulation. Look for swelling or weak spots.

2. Poor lubrication on the starter bendix shaft. Lightly oil the shaft and manually move the gear up and down.

Good luck, and let us know what you find. :)
