Yamaha temp sensor question

I have a 1998 60 hp Yamaha . The weep hole has a stream about 18" at idle but if I troll for 15-20 minutes , the temp alarm goes off. If I resume above idle speed then the alarm never sounds. Can you tell me where this sensor is located so I can remove and clean it?

How would I connect a temp gauge?

Thanks,

Re: Yamaha temp sensor question

i think i would change the water pump impellor first if its been a year or more. , or alot of non use time. sounds like idle has not enought cooling pressure.

Sensor is on the head. pink and black wire i think. Tstat may not be opening fully also. take out and test (or replace).

you can have a temp gauge or water PSI gauge installed in the brass plug on the head. A service manual is worth its weight in gold! you can get them online - in Cd format - for cheap. Good luck.
