I just bought a 1988 Yamaha 6hp 6SG, Gheenoe and trailer for $800. Everything is in great shape and the engine is clean. Only problem is the engine will only fire if I squirt some starting fluid in the intake but I won't keep running. The motor sat for a year or so without being run. I'm getting gas to the carb and fire to the plugs so I'm figuring there's an issue with the carb. What's the best reference or manual to show me how to rebuild or clean the carb? I really don't know much about outboards but I'm willing to dig in. If anyone thinks there's something else I need to look at please let me know. Thanks

Open the fuel bowl and clean out the float and pin with carb cleaner spray. Spray though all little orifices and reassemble. It's probably gummed up with varnish from the gas/oil mixture.
