yamaha powerhead removal

getn started on replacing the shift shaft in 85 115 v4 got 10 bolts out of the power head , came out like butta ... there is 2 nuts remaing at front of engine .. these need to come off ?<br />do i have to remove the carbs or anthing else to replace the shift shaft ? .. can i get away with unbolting and hoisting up ?

Yes they have to come off. You can lift and move motor far enough out of the way to replace shaft without pulling carbs.

Just did mine carbs don;t have to come off.

1990 85 hp outboard powerhead seperation? Why will it not come apart? I have all the bolts out and even have between .117 and .25 of an inch seperation from the powerhead, however, it does not seem to want to seperate. Does anyone have an idea short of a little c4.
