Yamaha late '80s 25-30 HP gearcase interchange questions

Hi all, I have a Yamaha 25 HP long shaft (20"), unknown year but suspect late '80s. Numbers off plate: 25LK, 6H7, L, 301225. I need a gearcase/lower unit.<br /><br />There is a gearcase available with the following numbers: 30LH, code 6J8L, serial 401041.<br /><br />Here are the questions:<br /><br />1. Is there a way I could look up the model numbers myself to determine what year these are?<br />2. If no, what year are these?<br />3. Will this 30 horse gearcase bolt up to my 25 long shaft?<br /><br />Thanks in advance, reach

Thanks myriopod. That link is great. To answer my own questions,<br /><br />1. Go to the web site above, guess the year and see if your model number is listed. <br />2. 25LK is 1985; 30LH is 1987. <br />3. No.
