I ordered a 20 Ft fiberglass trout boat that will be here in a month. It will be used as a river boat. I bought the 2004, 25 HP, 4 stroke Yamaha, electric start to hang on it. Is there a new kind of battery that does the starting and will run the electric trolling motor (dual purpose) all in one package? I do not see a starter rope on the motor and am concerned that I might need it one day. Would it be advisable to put two batteries in the boat, one for the engine and one for the trolling motor? Could I start the yamaha motor with the trolling motor battery in a pinch?

use 2 batteries #1 for engine and boat
#2 trolling motor
use a marine grade battery with same or more cca and ah as stated as a minimum requirment in owners manual.
a quick look at the 2003 or 2004 yamaha rigging guide will give you a suggested diagram
