My 1996 225 Yamaha was running rough today. We pulled the plugs and found one to be pretty damaged (lots of nicks) and the gap had been closed. The engine was rebuilt a year ago. I bought it 3 months ago. I plan to check the compression tomorrow. Any thoughts?

hello
I would not even bother with a compression test. you need to visually inspect the ports for damage so just pop the old cylinder head and have a look. probably a piece of piston ring or a wristpin bearing piece. in any case it is mechanical damage and the source must be found or it will do it again and again.
good luck and keep posting

Pull the cylinder head. Its blown up. It needs a rebuild or a new engine. Yamaha is offering extra 3 years of warrany with a new engine after dec. 1 2003. 5 years total. go EFI or HPDI.
