I bought a Yamaha 150 HPDI engine in 2001. Looking at the Yamaha parts diagram it appears that replacing the water pump impeller is not a do it yourself repair? Need advice on how often to change water pump impellor and or if I should carry a spare impeller or water pump repair kit for emergencies? Does any one know what Yamaha recommends in this regard?

hello
the yamaha is the easiest of all motors to change the impeller. I recommend the complete kit over just the impeller. if this is your first pump job you will likely tear up the retainer and cup assy on top of the impeller. no need to keep a spare kit unless parts are difficult to get in your area. its an easy job but very technical as you can do more damage than good if your not careful.
good luck and keep posting
ps the retainer and cup assy is not part of the water pump kit
