suzuki df40, lower end won't seperate hidden bolt?

i have a 1999 suzuki 40 horse 4 stroke. i'm trying to remove the lower end to replace the impeller, but i can't get any more than about 3/4" space.

The first thing you need to do is get a hold of a manual. It sounds like you didn't disconect the shift lever.
