Noticed some gear lube coming out of my water intake, so having the lower unit seals replaced.

My question is how do you remove the oil seal cover (plastic plate over the drive shaft holding the seals in). Does this require a special tool or do you just replace the cover with a new one when you remove it?

Any tips?

Thanks,

1stlite

Like the constipated mathematician, he worked it out with a pencil. The only thing holding the cap in the hole is the wear plate under the water pump. Use two small screwdrivers to gently pry the cap out of the hole. Corrosion may have set up causing the hole to be tighter. Look at it this way, what have you got to loose, if you mess it up, you just have to order a new cap.

Thanks Capt. Ken,

I feel better about "forcing it" knowing that replacement is the only ramification.

Ross Hiner
