Yamaha 40HP Model and year?

I have recently inherited a small boat with a Yamaha 40 hp putboard on it. The motor is a 2 cylinder with two carbs. Does anyone know what the correct fuel oil mixture for this engine might be? I'm afraid to try and start it without these details. <br /><br />It's model number is C40ELRQ and there's an additional code (date code mayber?) of 6E9 on the tag. Serial number is 55276.<br /><br />Any info on this motor would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />NB I ahve been waiting for four days for Yamaha Canada to call me back!<br /><br /><br />------------------<br />Boat_Boy!

C40EL... or 40C EL<br /><br />Yamaha built the Mariner engines-Japanese Models<br /><br />Using both codes with Mariner/Yamaha, I have come up with 1980-1981 Model year.<br /><br />Closer than you were before... It is definately a C40, but I know that it's not that old, I think it's between 1990 and 1993, just by trying to recall when my grandfather bought it.<br /><br />By the way, I have gone to three different dealers and they have given me three different answers to this question!<br /><br />------------------<br />Boat_Boy!

fone_man,<br /><br />Thanks for all your help. Guess what! Yamaha Canada just called me back. They say this thing is a 1992 C40. The model number is C40ELRQ.<br /><br />The E is for electric start, manual tilt, L for 20" leg, R for remote control, Q indicates model year of 1992. They say the serial number matches correctly to this data. They say the mix ratio is 100:1. This sounds really low to me. Could they be right on all the above? Try looking it up on this site. I just bought a Mariner/Yamaha 40hp serial # 6E9 L 412333. Found out I have a 1984 40C EL. They go by serial # ranges. Good Luck! http://www.storesonline.com/site/573683/page/608047
