Yamaha cooling stream just a dribble

I have a used 1997 Yamaha 6hp long shaft and have started it for the first time. The cooling water drips out of the power head rather than the optimal strong stream. One repair method is to install a new impeller, gaskets, etc. But the Yamaha rebuild kits are fairly expensive. Since some water is coming out, is there a way to flush out the cooling system to try to clear any debris before doing the surgery on the water pump? This motor looks nearly new, but was used in salt water, so there could be some salt buildup inside.

You can try flushing the motor with muffs, but if it has been ran in saltwater and wasn't flushed regurally, its my guess a new impeller is in order.

Sleepy,

Do yourself a favor and replace the impeller. It's alot cheaper than a powerhead.

Thanks for the input - I was holding out hope that there was some magic elixer that would clear clogged cooling systems. I'll get to work on the impeller!
