I am being gifted an older Yamaha 200 as a wedding present. Who couldnt use another project right? It does run but I want to go through it and tune it up and run it on a stand before it sees water.

It doesn't seem to follow yamahas nomenclature so I am a little lost and hoping yall can help.

The tag say it is a "200AETO" "6G6UL750420"

I hope yall can point me in the right direction and thank you ahead of time for any information you can give me.

A Yamaha model made for a market outside of the USA. Equivalent of a 1984 USA model 200ETLN model. An oldy but goody. You can find illustrations and part numbers at the Yamaha USA website. www.yamahaoutboards.com

So I finally got around to pressure testing the lower and it was in terrible shape. After looking up the 200ETLN I assumed i had a 20" drive shaft. As it turns out mine is a 25" and it all looks original. How does that happen?

Looks like I will move my 25" shaft to the new lower. I also have a different spacer on the inside of the prop shaft that seems to be pressed on. Without it my prop contacts the housing on the new lower. I don't see it in the parts catalogues either.

If anyone knows this part please let me know.

That's what I'm thinking too. I was looking in the link you posted above and couldn't seem to find it.

That spacer is the one designed for the Yam.
My neighbor swapped props to get his rebuilt.
He didn't use the OEM when the rebuilt came back.
The prop cavitated and used a lot more fuel because of it.
A regular trip was about 15gal. We went out and ran out of fuel before we headed in.

Hmmm this one seems stuck but I'll be taking it to the shop to get the shafts swapped over and hopefully they have a bigger puller than I do.

That is the thrust washer. It is just stuck.

Item 21 in the parts catalog on the page labeled as Lower Drive 2.

Thank you very much. I was trying to get it to move and had come to the conclusion that this thing was a prototype prop shaft. Lol

I put a little heat to it and it slid right off. Now I just need a mechanic willing to pull the drive shaft. Or help finding a puller for prop shaft.

Well I got the parts out of the old lower and I was hoping they would be reusable. Not so sure now. I have some pitting at the bearing surface below the water pump that has me concerned. I guess I'll clean it up and see where that takes me.

Before any cleaning. If I even considered running this one I'm thinking my chances of premature failure are pretty high arent they?

If the shaft that is pitted is what the needle/roller bearings ride on,
I would have to say a new or used shaft is needed
or pay to have that cut, welded, and re-machined to spec

I'm thinking option 2 may be in my best interest. That is the surface that the upper bearings ride against.

not sure , but that surface may be treated somehow to make it harder because it is a bearing race
