Yamaha F225 Oil gauge is blinkng?

I have a 2005 F225 4 stroke Yamaha with the oil gauge blinking and the motor speed goes down to a lower rpm. Checked oil level was a little low so filled back up and the problem is still happening every so often 1/2 hour or so between issues. What causes this and what can I do to troubleshoot the problem when it happens?

oil pressure gets out of range it should be at wht ever RPM it is at the time.
too low or too high.
check oil pressure,the sending unit, and wiring
