Greetings all, first post here.
I was given a 1988 2hp 2-stroke Yamaha that the local dealer said was scrap - I think not...
It has 125 lbs compression & a good spark - dealer cleaned carb (he says) put a new plug in, THEN tested compression (??) at 95 lbs - says "crank seals are toast"
At $99 hourly they thought it was not worth repairing. But I'm retired & charge myself nothing for labor (OK minimum 1 beer/hour)...
So I took off the shroud, fuel tank, carb, bought a $22 puller & pulled the flywheel... & removed the plate with the points etc...
Removed the 6 bolts holding the powerhead... it only moves up about 1/4 inch ?
What next? Do I have to remove the lower unit? Plus, looking down at the crank I can't see how to change top seal, do I have to split this to change seals?
Somebody out there knows what to do, I await your wisdom...
