Hi! I have a 2000 Yamaha f40 (F40MLHY) and it is manual start with manual tilt (gas assist I guess. But still manual)
I want to add electric start. I know I need to change the flywheel so I can have a ring gear. but do I need to change the stator as well? I am not worried about a charging circuit. The boat comes out of the water every after every use and I charge my trolling motor battery anyways. So charging a starting battery won't be the end of the world.
Other than a flywheel with ring gear and starter motor (I can wire up a switch and solenoid to make that work with no difficulty.) Do I need anything else?
