Im working on an older 25 yami for a friend, has no id tags.
He bought it from a police seizure auction.
He paid a mechanic to get her running.
New carb and water pump job.
The lower unit shift linkage(10mm barrel nut) was frozen.
The mechanic tried to turn it....only to break the upper connecting pin thats located under the powerhead.
Ive removed the powerhead to access the linkage.
I now find myself in need of a new base gasket, new linkage pin.....and possibly a new shift rod and barrel nut.

My question
Is there any other way to id model and year without the vin tag.
Ive look through lots of different year and model 25 yamaha diagrams......but cant find anything with exact shift cam assembly.

Any help would be appreciated.
Ill try to get some pics up.

I think ive narrowed it to 1987.
84-87 has the same cowling (motor cover) as the motor i have.

Example
If all 84-99 2 stroke yamaha parts are identical.....awesome.
I can just pick a year.

Heres the rod and motor in question.
My local yamaha dealer wont help, the owner brought it to them for repairs, dealer alerted police about possible stolen motor because tags were gone.police picked up the motor then contacted my buddy, buddy had to provide auction reciept.....took 6 mths to recover from local police.
That was 8 mths ago.
My next step is to start running casting numbers.

Onto the pics

The year 84-87 was correct by matching up diagrams of the cowling shape.
Ordered plenty parts, got her back together.
New stater to carb linkage, base gasket, shift linkage with pin and washers, and new rubber throttle cover.
I guess this thread is done
Thanx for the help.
Ive used boats.net for parts diagrams and ordering.
Fast shipping and reasonable prices.
Once i had part numbers i priced them with my lical dealer.dealer quoted me $226.98 for the parts.
Paid $107.97 at boats.net
