OK I will be brief!
No water to the thermostat
Figured water pump
I dropped the bottom end and put a hose up the tube that the pump feed
Lots of water flowing back, nothing at the tstat, very weak telltale
so I took out the tube that the water pump feeds - it was bent and destroyed - unbelievable - like someone went at it with a hammer.
so I took the hose and stuck it up the hole where the tube used to be - again, water flowing all over, even out what looks like a small square exhaust port on the back of the motor extension. yes water at the telltale, but nothing at the tstat.
HELP - is my motor toast? cracked or????
my only guess is that it was not completely drained last Fall and it froze over the winter - who knows??
please let me know if you have any suggestions
thanks!

majnolo, first, Welcome to iBoats.
What year is your Suzuki? Can you post your model number.
Is this a new to you motor, or did you have it for awhile?
Where was the primary usage, fresh or salt water.

I assume that you have removed the thermostat for your testing. Have you tried pouring water down the thermostat housing to see where it goes?

How about posting a picture or 2 of the water pump, tube and thermostat housing. I think that will give us here a start to see what is happening.

You need 3 posts to post pictures, and here is a link on how to do it. Option 3 is the best option, using a free photobuchet account.

Hello mjf55
In answer to your questions
It is a 1985
Salt water use (on a 17' center console)
Pouring water in the tstat opening and water comes out the bottom
I have had the boat about 5 years and this is a new one
Have had rough running poor idling issues but never heating limp mode stuff...

Pull the power head and look.

I do not see how water freezing would have caused tube bent and destroyed like someone went at it with a hammer.

I agree
Looks like it was assembled wrong - the top of the tube not properly engaged when the bolts tightened
Pull the power head...
Wondering if this 1985 motor is worth the effort??
