My Alarming Yamaha

I just bought a 1999 Yamaha 130 saltwater series on a blue wave. Just took it out for the first time and after planing out the temp alarm came on. So shut down the engine and restarted. Boat ran fine for an hour after that with no alarm however the temp gauge continued to flash. So I don't know if it is in fact over heating. What should I do or check for ???
