Today I changed the water impeller on my 2004 Yamaha 200hp outboard. Now it is in reverse with the dash selector in all positions. I have the lower unit back out. What do I need to look for or check. Thanks, JD

While turning prop shaft by hand move the shifter shaft with some pliers(rag to protect splines) until neutral is located.....put your shifter control also in neutral and replace lower unit....should be good to go....

JD, please post what you did to correct the issue. That way there is a record of the problem and your solution

Robert Graham's response was how I was able to correct the problem. The shaft on the lower unit has only three positions. I turned it with pliers to the center position and put the shifter in the neutral position and I could not get the lower unit on. I then moved the shaft on the lower unit into the reverse position and put the shifter on the dash in reverse position and the lower unit went right on. Now it shifts great. Thanks for ya'll's help.
