Suzuki 87 dt40 prop won't go into reverse

I took my motor to a marine mechanic to change the impeller when I got it back the next day took it on the water try to go in reverse and it would just click forward was fine but reverse would click found the clutch rod arm broke,replace clutch rod arm now in reverse prop will not spin left or right can somebody please help me out

Is the motor running. If you are checking reverse the propeller should lock both ways when the motor is not running.

Omg thank u for that answer now when I put into forward then back into neutral I have to go into reverse a mm then it's ok , that is just a adjustment on the shift rod correct?

Cable or shift rod adjustment whichever you have. It has been many years since I have seen that motor.

Also makes a little noise with motor off in foward but no noise when motor is running and all is good in neutrel
