I took my boat out of the water this past week. The boat mechanic said that my trim motor was going and I was leaking fluid or oil when raising the engine.
The total cost of the repair is 2k in parts and approx. 1k in labor. It seems like an huge expense without researching.I called Sierra Marine and they quoted me 548.0 for the motor and 411.00 for the pump .That is a 1k difference in price.
Does anyone have any suggestions or should I just go a head with the mechanic

find a different Yamaha shop for a second opinion

Motor should not have a leak as it does not have oil running through it.
I would think it is a ram that needs resealing, but I have not seen it

Or find a used unit.

There is 4 small o rings that seal between the pump housing and body of the assembly. Common problem. If the 3 bolts holding the assembly aren't corroded, it's about an one hour repair.
