Hi Guys, I have a 1987 70hp yamaha two stroke that will only start with starting fluid and then runs fine the whole time.it will start right back up unless it sits.
The choke appears to be working fine.
Any clues???

Welcome aboard.

What is your starting procedure?

Choke not closing off all the way would be my guess.
Starting fluid is very bad for 2 strokes, no lubrication

My starting procedure is open vent on tank, prime bulb, crank then hit choke as cranking.
This has always worked it just recently started having a problem.
The choke is closing completely when I hit the switch.
Runs fine when started, even under load at full throttle

have you tried raising the warm up lever some while hitting the choke?
Have to let some more air in with the extra fuel if the plates are really closing as you say

Yes I have tried that also, choke,no choke, throttle,no throttle. It used to start right up. There are no other symptoms
