new to boating and forum, I am in the process of fixing 1985 bayliner capri aq125a /270. The outdrive will not lower.. I have replaced the motor, relays, and toggle switch. It will lower when bypassed. However, I am unsure how to rewire it to bypass switch altogether. I attemped to bypass it with a chunk of wire and it made no difference, (but it raises and lowers when direct power is put to motor) The switch was tested by a marine mechanic and he said it was fine. Since the switch is obsolete, I figured bypassing it altogether would be my best option. Thanks for any suggestions.

No Title

On the bottom of the tilt mechanism is a plate or shoe that pushes on the release arm.
Is it still there?#21 in the pic.
Sometimes just removing the unit and cleaning and re-greasing will allow the travel needed to activate the switches.
Be careful when you take it apart.
Switch isn't obsolete 850710 Volvo http://volvopentastore.com/
The lock down mechanism on the drive needs to be operating and in good shape to operate the system.
