5.0FI Volvo Penta 1996 Four Winns

Took the boat out for first time ran great for first hour then all of a sudden started cutting out right about 2800RPM I can cut it back just a bit and runs great!! Engine starts and idles great!! I changed the fuel filter and that didn't help does it under load and sitting with just giving it the gas!!! It does sound like it is sucking or starving for gas when I give it gas not in gear!! Any idea or where I can start looking

Welcome. First check the vent from the tank to the outside of the boat.
Bugs get in there and can block it off.
The fuel tank pickup with an anti siphon valve might be clogged or partially stuck?
I've pulled them and found rust, crud and broken springs.
Any other letters after the 5.0FI ?? They made 11-12 different 5.0 FI
It just makes it easier to look up the diagrams.
Check the coil and see if it's getting to hot?
