outdrive swap

Im thinking about swapping my 280 outdrive for a 290. my question .Is the bolt pattern and cut out the same? Or is it possible without a lot of glass work? Im referring to the transom mount holes my boat is a1984 bayliner trophy. the 290 dp is a1991

I think?The holes on the transom should be the same.
If there is any glass work it's more than likely it gets cut out not added to.

Are you just wanting a dual prop? You might be able to just use the lower unit off the 290?

The hole cutout and boltpattern are not the same. But luckily the 290 transom is bigger, so you only neet to cut and drill, no glass work.Don_S-transomcut.jpg

Thank you all for your help. Is there a mod to convert the mechanical tilt to hydraulic on my 280?

That's where you get into a bunch o work.
The transom shield and transom mount will be different.
The 290 should come with the hyd. rams for the drive built into the transom assy.
The 280 stuff won't work.
The pump lines will need the newer transom mount the inside too.
