VP used the Qjet on the all the V-8s (except 2 barrel versions) including the AQ260 (5.7), and AQ225 (5.0). The models that followed, AQ271 and 570 used Holley and AQ231 and other 5.0 sbc continued using the qjet like Maclin pointed out. So, no the carb isn't stock on this particular motor.

So the carb on my engine was put on aftermarket and is a Holly? Are these good?

Also, how can I tell if this engine is standard or reverse rotation? And would that have anything to do with which starter I need to purchase?

If it is a Marine Holley then it is ok. Usually the linkage is different though for the throttle. Hopefully the carb is Marine and the linkage is good to go and not cobbled.

pull the flame arrestor and look. if the vent tubes from the bowls curve around to the carb throat, you have a marine carb.

if the vent tubes are straight up and there is a vacuum port anywhere on the carb, you have an automotive carb.
