Hello, I'm looking for some advice on how to remove the side/flush mount controls on my 2000 Four Winns Horizon (VP 4.3GL PEFS, SX-M) as I need to replace the shift cable. I believe it is an OMC shifter # 176911. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

A photo would help.
Looks to me as if the gear disengagement button in the centre of the lever can be removed and behind it is a screw that holds the lever in place, with that off the panel cover can then be removed to reveal the fixings.

And that is the control I gave the instructions for. It shows the set screw in the picture on 9-11

I used to have that same exact control on a couple boats. Took the handle off many times.

I stand corrected, I also had the same handle as shown in the manual on a 115 Evinrude but I could not see the Allen screw in the picture.
I replaced the trim tilt switch by removing the disengagement button and screw and still have the good old one as it turned out to be a broken wire at the transom.

Ahhh...completely different control.

That is actually like the one I have now. The part number on mine is 3860578 but they did have a bunch of part numbers. I will look around to see if I still have my install manual.

The newer part number is 3885624

Out of curiosity, how did you come up with the 176911 part number? That is the part number for the control dypcdiver showed.

That would be great bruceb58. Got the part no from the Four Winns parts website. Much appreciated!

Any luck Bruce? Diagrams on web pretty weak. Don't show any fasteners. Trying to avoid Murphy's law.

Not yet. Can't find the documentation that came with my control either. You may want to contact Volvo.
