I bought 75w-90 API GL5 Performance Pennzoil marine gear lube for outboards & stern drives. blue oil. at academy for about 6$ a qt.now it doesn't say anything about synthetic. But neither does the quicksilver hi perf. All it says is that it is for high performance outboards & stern drives I'm wondering if it will be okay to use on my volvo sx-m 2004?

I would say if it doesn't say anything about synthetic then it's not. Looked up the Pennzoil on line and did not find 75W-90, only found 80W-90. What I have noticed is the 80W stuff has always been petroleum oil, while 75W is usually synthetic. That being said I would always read the specs on the bottle. Quick Silver/Mercury has removed the 75W designation from their HP lube and just list SAE 90. Merc (IMO) doesn't want to provide any info which would lead someone to just use full synthetic gear lube like 75W-90 mobile one. The Merc HP stuff is synthetic and the regular Merc lube is a blend
