My 1998 volvo penta 4.3 l gl seems to have a fuel pump problem

no fuel to carb also if I pump the throttle engine starts then dies if I unplug electric plug to fuel pump engine does the same thing I plug it back in and again engine does the same thing any help thanks

You have an electric fuel pump? Do you have voltage at the pump while cranking? There are a number of things it could be...

yes it is electric I'll check for voltage at the pump

Your pump should be the same as mine. Have you removed the fuel seperator/filter to see if it is full?

yes voltage at pump when cranking also I removed fuel line from carb and then cranked engine plenty of fuel flowed so pump seems to be working I'm thinking could it be the float stuck or something of the sort in the carb . Early on I removed the fuel hose from fuel pump was able to suck fuel out of tank so no abstruction there.

Yes I also changed the filter and after trying to start it removed the filter again and it was full

I agree, i think its time to open up the carb.
