I have been told that I could use a 280 lower unit SP on a DP-A 195a outdrive the drive snapped on the original and a duo prop unit is way too expensive. Other factors are I am using a gm 350 engine. If not what are my options

Re: replacing volvo penta lower unit

You can use a 280 lowerunit on a DP-A outdrive.

-The gear ratio for the V8 must be 1.61:1
-Remember to get the bearing race for the upper taper roller bearing with the lowerunit. It is pressed into the upper unit and 99% of the lowerunits for sale, forget to sell this one with it.
-When installing the 280 lowerunit on your upper unit, remove the bearing race from your upper unit and install the race that came with the 280 lowerunit, with the correct amount of shims under it(Volvo manuals describes how this is done).

You must obtain the bearing race that belongs to the lowerunit, otherwise the upper taper roller bearing will be assembled from two different parts, with different wear patterns.
