Hi...We have a 1983 Bayliner Capri - Volvo Penta AQ125A...bought it in May and this is the first summer we've used it...here's what happened:

Went out on the lake, ran fine, idled fine, planed fine...stopped and sat for half an hour; started back up, started fine but soon died; turned engine over, no fire; took off dog house, turned engine over, no fire; turned engine over again and lake water (not coolant water) gushed out of carb; took off carb cover, turned engine over and ten foot gyser gushed up and out of carb, then hydrolocked; got it home, pulled plugs, water squirted out of all four and water in oil...

Where to start? Symptoms appear to be a cracked block...all four cylinders with water, gushing out of carb, water in oil and pan.....any thoughts...help!

Welcome.

I would look at the timing belt. But get the motor dried out asap!

The timing belt? Not sure how that would cause this...thanks!

If the timing belt breaks or the teeth get stripped from it, the camshaft will not be turning. Instead of the valves opening and closing when they are supposed to, they are opening at the wrong time, or stuck open in the wrong position. It can cause exhaust cooling water to get sucked back into the engine and it will also cause cylinder pressure to push out through the carburetor because the valve timing is wrong.

I would agree with captmello to first check the timing belt. If you haven't replaced it since you got the boat and you don't have documentation of it being replaced in the past few years, you need to replace it anyway, even if it isn't the problem.
