I suspect that my ECM is faulty and I'm far away from service.

Need more information about how an ECM works.

Is it possible to reset an ECM or is it in a fixed status?
Is it tuned for every single engine or are all set at same satus?
Can it be replaced without any adjustment?
Is it possible to check if the ECM is faulty, without bringing the boat?
Is it possible to just send the ECM to someone that can test it?
Is it possible to repair an ECM?
Is there any repacement system were I can change my one to one that has been repaired?

The cost for a new one is ruin my familys economy.

Please help me to find a cost effective solution.

Thank you!

The only thing you can reset on them are the trouble codes they store.
They are tuned for specific engines, if you have a 5.7 and ECM from a 5.0 will not work properly.
Yes you can replace one without adjusting anything.
I'm sure they can be tested, not sure who does it though.
I dont think they can be repaired if faulty.

You more or less need a scan tool that hooks up to the ECM to diagnose problems. They are not cheap either, about 450 US, not sure about getting one in Sweden. Good luck, I posted on your other question a link to service manuals, hopefully they help you out.

Thank you,

I will continue to search on Internet for someone that can test the ECM when it is disconnected from engine.

Anyone that know best prices for a ECM for a Volvo Penta 5.7 Gi-E ?

I'm buing most of needed parts from Marine parts in Gothenburg, but the price 2500USD for this part is far away from what I'm ready to pay :(

Re: ECM Volvo Penta 5.7 Gi-E

I have found a dealer in US that checked my ECM. The company did the check and the answer I got was as follow:
"Got your ecm today and ran it on the bench. There were 8 logged trouble codes set and 1 active code, M81 Fuel Pump Low. I cleared all the codes and ran it.
The IAC is dead and does not work at all. The fuel pump relay is dead and does not work at all. The injectors fire and seem to work fine, and the other sensors seem to be ok. It reset a number of the codes again after I ran it."

I bought a used one from them the price was $900 plus shipping

I can recommend their excellent service, everything worked out well :)
