Hi i live in uk and have an old fishing boat with 2 x 250 volvo outlegs/ sterndrives. Boat was out of use for some time and steering is almost impossible to move left or right. It is free from all cables and moves up and down reasonably freely, i have been told steering bushes, does anyone know how they are changed and is it something that can be done by myself?. I have tried re greaseing etc to no affect. Any help with this would be great Thanks in advance.

Re: volvo 250 steering stiff

When the steering is stiff on the 200-250-270-280-290-SP drives, the problem is often found at the water pickup tube. The whole drive pivots around the water pickup tube. Over time some corrosion builds up and causes the steering to become stiff. The only solution is to take the drive(s) off, separate them on the middle, drive out the water pickup tube, clean and grease surfaces and re assemble.
