My son has a 7metre Draco fitted with a Volvo AQ200D petrol engine and 280 drive. The engine sounds and runs beautifully out of gear and at slow speeds (up to 8 knots). On high throttle settings and after about 10 minutes running in gear it loses power. If the engine is then run out of gear it revs and runs without problem and after remaining in this state for about 5 minutes the drive can be engaged and everything seems to be back to normal but after a few minutes running the power drops off once again. The engine does not stop running just loses power when under load. Can anyone be of assistance.
Unfortunately I didn't get any replies to my post but fortunately we were able to sort this out ourselves. The problem was caused by the automatic choke on the Rochester carburettor not functioning properly. The flap was not opening and so the choke remained on. Sorted out temporarily by using tie wrap to hold flap open
