Hello

I am considering all my options for replacing my xdp drives on my 2005 Formula 31PC with twin VP 8.1.
I am in fresh water so besides the obvious move to dps-a drives I am kicking around the thought of
"what would it take to mount Merc. Bravo 3 drives and transom ***. to the VP engines.

Besides for the opinions of which is better. does anyone have any insites on what would be needed, and could it
be done without too many custom hacks.
I know I would need to replace the bell housings on the engines, Somehow match the ypipe to the risers, new shift cable
I cannot find any info on the transom cutout. How much differnt it is. Can I use a VP to merc. transom adator that is sold online?? or is that for a differnt VP drive.

If anybody has any info on this it would be great. Thanks

Thanks Don, as far as I am concerned, that is one of the biggest obstacles.

Do you know if that means that the X center line will be correct or is the the driveshaft to mount holes offset
differntly between the 2 brands?

Thank you again for your help!!

Thats great to know, Have you heard of anyone doing this before?

I will have to start looking at ypipes and the water pump connections to see
if there is a issue there.

I have a bravo 3 on my vp 7.4gl. So it has been done before but I bought it used that way. Unfortunately mine is sitting dead right now due to it not getting fuel to the injectors from the high pressure fuel pump.

exhaust risers may be at a different angle.

other than that, it will be unbolt one, bolt in the other, make things like plumbing and exhaust fit.

Thanks for the info.

Scott, I assume that I am correct, the bell housing on the volvo motor has to be replaced with a Mercruiser one?
I believe that the bell housing from a 7.4L and a 496 (8.1L) are the same. I will have to do some research on that!

yes. the bell housings from all Chevrolet V8's are the same. everything from the 4.3 liter V-6 thru the 9.4 liter (572)

and yes, you have to use a Mercruiser bell housing for a mercruiser drive
