Hi,

I am trying to figure out how to set the base timing on a 2000 Volvo Penta 5.7 GSi PEFS. There is no timing grid on the engine, it just has a v-groove in the dampener. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to use a timing light to set the timing without a scale to read off of? I do own the Rinda Diacom software, and noticed that it has a base timing mode but I do not believe it shows a live readout of the base timing? Can anyone give me some direction?

You need an advance timing light that you can set to the desired degrees, then after you put it in base timing mode you just adjust to 0.

Ok so I set the gun at 8 degrees and put the engine in to base timing mode. Revs at 1000rpm and set the grooves to 0. I hope that's correct, seemed to run ok when back in normal mode.
