Water Pump 1999 Volvo 5.0 - gas

Is there an easy way to test the water pump to determine if it is getting water? Could a bad thermostat also cause water not being sucked into the engine. The engine overheated but the temperature gauge never reach a high temperature.

Have you checked the impeller? How old is it?

It has never been replaced. The boat has been in dry storage for 5 years. Is the impeller inside the water pump mounted on the front of the engine?

What's the full model number or the serial number of your engine? Year doesn't mean much.
