Drive ratios - Converting from volvo 290 SP to 290 Duo

Hi - I have a V6 4.3L (225hp) mounted to a 290 SP (1.61:1) that works great. I have the swapportunity to go to a 290 Duo-prop that is a 1.95:1 is this the correct ratio I should be considering the 2.30:1 ratio? Thanks!

2.30 is what you want for a V6, the 1.95 is for V8 engines.

If I went with the 1.95, could I compensate with lower pitch props?

You can some what, but it won't be as good as the correct ratio. If it was, Volvo wouldn't have used different ratios.
