I have a 1996 Regal with 5.0 Volvo Penta and DP out drive.

1. The power trim / tilt cylinder on port side leaks
2. The drive shakes big time when trimmed way up (only at idle). Cause entire boat to shake like crazy until trimmed down

Questions

1. where can I get repair kit (seals, etc.) for tilt / trim cylinder and what would part number be?
2. Can the cylinder be removed for repair without removing drive off boat?
3. What would cause the major shaking when trimmed way up at idle?

Thank you

NEVER run the engine with the drive tilted all the way up.
Might want to pull the drive and make sure the ujoint are ok.

Yes, but keep in mind, the drive needs to come off the boat yearly to grease the coupler splines, check the bellows for water, check the alignment etc. It's called preventive maintenance.

There is a couple of threads here about resealing the trim cylinders, might try doing a search.

EDIT found this on another thread.

Also, relative to this thread and as an FYI for any readers looking for the part number...

Just an FYI, the OMC trim cylinder reseal kit part number is 985060 (cost is $27.25 plus tax) compared to a new Volvo SX trim cylinder which is ($472.50 plus tax each)...
