I'd like to replace my starter or rebuild it. It's a 1982 VP 5.0 litre Chevy engine. All the starters I see for sale dont look like mine. Mine has the solenoid mounted on the body of the motor. It doesnt "lever" the gear.... this starter must be a centrifugal activated gear.
Can anyone identify this starter? I need to buy parts to rebuild it or possibly a starter and solenoid. Pic attached.

That is just a very old style, replace it with the newer style marine starter for your engine.

Yeah, for that reason I was thinkng of trying to replace with same for same. I'm trying to find a shop that will rebuild.... although not sure I can find a solenoid like that... Can use a universal one I suppose...?
