i have a volvo penta aq211a inboard which is RAW water cooled.

im wondering if its possibly to buy a closed circuit heat exchanger kit for this engine as i want to preserve the life of the engine and feel using it in salt water with indefinetly KILL my engine in the near future...

thanks...

Yes there are kits for almost anything you want to do.
There are kits for just the block and some for the block and manifolds.
This one is for just the block,I think?? 841712 Volvo Part #

Ayuh,.... Google says it's in Scotland,....

Connel (Gaelic: A' Chonghail) is a village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is situated on the southern shore of Loch Etive.

The Aq211 is at least 20 years old. If it has been well maintained, only run on fresh water lakes, yes, maybe it's worth the effort and money to add fresh water cooling. But if it is a salt water engine, with many hours on it, I would say it's too late.

I have seen 20 year old salt water engines, converted into fresh water cooling, and a weird substance appears over time, in the system. Maybe changing the coolant often, in the beginning, will terminate this problem.

I know a guy, who flushed out his engines with acid, before installing closed cooling. A lot of rust and garbage came out of the engines. He later sold the boat, so I never heard, if there was any problems with the cooling system afterwards.
